INCENTIVES
India has rapidly emerged as a globally preferred filming destination, combining unparalleled location diversity with a powerful government-backed incentive program. This is not just a policy but a strategic invitation from the Government of India to international studios, filmmakers, and production houses to leverage the country’s vast resources and financial advantages.
PRODUCTION FACILITATION
Through the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) under the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), India offers one of the most competitive cash rebate schemes globally. Eligible productions can receive a base rebate of 30% on all qualifying production expenditure (QPE) incurred in India, with the potential to claim an additional 10% through specific bonuses. Projects that prominently showcase Indian culture, heritage, or locations may qualify for a 5% Significant Indian Content (SIC) bonus, while productions employing 15% or more Indian nationals in their workforce may receive an additional 5% Local Manpower bonus, bringing the total incentive to as much as 40% of QPE. The rebate is subject to a cap of INR 300 million (approximately USD 3.6 million), making it particularly attractive for medium to large-scale international productions.

POST-PRODUCTION
This incentive framework applies to a wide range of formats, including feature films, television and OTT series, documentaries, and even post-production or VFX work carried out in India, with documentaries benefiting from the added advantage of no minimum QPE requirement. To further simplify the process, the Government of India has introduced a single-window clearance system through the Film Facilitation Office, ensuring ease of doing business for international productions. Instead of navigating multiple authorities, filmmakers can streamline approvals for shooting permissions, customs clearance for equipment, and visa assistance for foreign cast and crew through a centralised system that offers clarity, predictability, and official support from the outset.

POST-PRODUCTION
Accessing these incentives, however, requires careful planning and compliance, as the rebate is disbursed to the Indian service company or line production partner on behalf of the international production. This makes the role of a reliable local partner critical. As an experienced line production company in India, WIP Productions manages the entire process, from securing interim approval with the FFO before the shoot begins to structuring budgets that maximise qualifying expenditure and handling all documentation, compliance, and final audit submissions. With India offering world-class production capabilities alongside substantial financial incentives, working with the right production partner ensures that your project remains fully compliant while allowing you to focus entirely on creative execution.
